Music

At Choppington Primary, we use Music to foster creativity, and self – expression. Music is a powerful form of communication that can change the way that our pupils feel, think and act. Our main aim is to help children to feel like they are musical and to develop a life-long love of music. Our goal is for the children to develop musical skills and knowledge through effective teaching where children are fully engaged in their learning.

By engaging children in musical experiences, we offer our children opportunities to develop skills, attitudes and attributes that can support learning in other curriculum areas as well as developing life skills such as listening, the ability to concentrate, creativity, self-confidence and a sensitivity towards others and the environment. We follow the key principles of a spiral curriculum when teaching music: cyclical, increasing depth and prior knowledge. Through music the children will learn transferable skills such as team-work, leadership, creative thinking, problem-solving and decision making skills. These are all vital to a child’s learning and development and are transferable to out with school also.
